Banff National Park is located in the Canadian Rocky Mountains in the province of Alberta. The town of Banff is the central destination within the park, and is only 128 kilometres (80 miles) west of the international airport in Calgary.
Banff National Park can also be accessed from international airports in Edmonton, Alberta, 401 kilometres (250 miles) northeast of the park, and Vancouver, British Columbia, 850 kilometres (530 miles) west of Banff. Three highways bisect the park, including the Trans-Canada Highway (#1) which runs from Canada’s east coast through Calgary, Banff and Lake Louise on its way to Vancouver on the west coast. From the town of Banff, Lake Louise is located 55 kilometres (35 miles) to the west, Canmore is 26 kilometres (16 miles) to the east, and the town of Jasper in Jasper National Park is 287 kilometres (180 miles) to the northwest.
Tour buses operate within the park year-round, and there are several car rental agencies in Banff and Jasper, as well as in the neighbouring cities.
