Budget Nightlife in Jasper – Mountain Man’s Friday Night
Jasper, Alberta
It’s no secret that the Mountain Man likes to work hard and play hard. After a long day of hiking around Banff and praising himself on his blog, a bit of relaxation is needed. It is with this in mind that after a particularly tough week, I booked myself into one of my favourite hotels in Jasper, then hit the town. Worried that if I just did a Jasper pub crawl I might not be able to remember anything to tell you, I made some variations. Under a strict budget enforced by my general lack of funds, some hard research found me these delightful deals, ensuring the usual excellent weekend that Jasper always provided.
A meal is the most sensible option to start an evening, and a friend informed me that Cassios Trattoria has extended their fantastic winter special into Spring. The words make me hungry again – 3 courses for $30. Mussels + Lasagne + Ice-cream = heaven. This deal ends the last day of April, so hurry!
Feeling a bit sleepy after dinner, and with the night as young as Woody Allen’s daughter / wife, I felt I needed a bit of excercise — but not too much. Luckily I packed my golf clubs in the boot of the VW, just in case. I’m no Tiger Woods. I’m more like John Daly on a particularly bad day, so some driving range practice in the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge was definitely in need. It is open every day until 6 p.m. so there are plenty of opportunities to fine tune the swing.
After some swings got my blood pumping again, I ditched the car back at the hotel, and proceeded to my final and inevitable destination, The Whistle Stop Pub. Ice cold bucket of 3 Coronas, every Friday until April 24 for only $15. Need I say more? Yes? Fair enough, there is also the chance to win Corona ski jackets or a Corona snowboard, which will make you the envy of the slopes next winter.
