From London to Banff and Back in 14 Days
Banff, Alberta
I visited England not too long ago, and as much as I enjoyed the sights of the Big Smoke, I could also see where it got its name. I spent perhaps too much time back on my beloved blog, looking at photos of crisp Banff, reading about friendly Jasper, nostalgically picturing the Canadian Rockies as I hiked Lake Louise. It is with this in mind that I thought it was time to show Europeans that the Rockies are not so far away.
As well as the traditional methods of visiting Banff (flying into Edmonton / Calgary, renting a car, etc) there are alternative, fun and economical ways to go about things. A travel company called Titan HiTours exists to make it easy for all with a guided tour. Below is a very brief itinerary of what could be your dream trip. Don’t forget to call into Mountain Man to say hello!
DAY 1 LONDON – VANCOUVER
Fly into Vancouver and adjust to your new settings.
DAY 2 VANCOUVER
Orientation and an optional excursion to Grouse Mountain and the Capilano Suspension Bridge, which might make you wet your pants.
DAY 3 VANCOUVER
Visit Stanley Park on your free day. At 1,000 acres, it is the largest urban park in North America and Vancouver’s green heart.
DAY 4 VANCOUVER – VICTORIA
Before heading into Victoria, take a ferry crossing through the Strait of Georgia to Vancouver Island, which is a feeding ground for heaps of cool animals.
DAY 5 VICTORIA
Victoria is one of Canada’s most beautiful cities and also one of the most British for those townies amongst you who are beginning to feel homesick!
DAY 6 VICTORIA- KELOWNA
The drive here alone is worth the trip. The excellent wine at the end of it makes it even better!
DAY 7 KELOWNA
This is a good chance to take a full day to visit one of the great wineries of the world and set your palate right.
DAY 8 KELOWNA – JASPER
Another great drive, Jasper is a gorgeous little town set in the Canadian Rockies. Jasper National Park is one of the biggest tourist draws to the Canadian Rockies, and it is easy to see why.
DAY 9 JASPER
This is an opportunity for some great sightseeing with Maligne Canyon and Medicine Lake high on the list of must-do’s. In the evening, a walk around the town of Jasper at the right time of year can provide great opportunities to spot some elk and deer relaxing.
DAY 10 JASPER- BANFF
Banff is the jewel in the Canadian Rockies crown. The road linking these two great places is beautiful and it is difficult to tear your eyes away from the window, especially when going through the Icefield Parkway. The halfway point is the equally stunning Columbia Icefields, one of the biggest accumulations of ice and snow south of the Arctic Circle. Again, there are plenty of wildlife to be seen.
DAY 11 BANFF
Even though that 14th day is creeping closer, no need to worry. Visit Moraine Lake, once featured on the back of the Canadian $20 note. Also go through Lake Louise and have some evening tea at the Chateau luxury hotel.
DAY 12 BANFF
This is a good chance to do some shopping in Banff to bring something back to jealous loved ones. There are few better locations for shopping than this small unchanged beauty. If you have time, see if you can fit in some activities like skiing, white water rafting or even get a hike in to save the cash.
DAY 13 BANFF – CALGARY- LONDON
It is all over and you must return to the homeland stocked with great photos, presents for all and memories to last a long time.
DAY 14 LONDON
The depression of the return is softened by the fact that TitanHi Tours provides transportation all the way to your front door.
