For landscape photographers visiting Banff this summer that have a hankering to get off-the-road and into an area with stunning scenics just waiting to be taken, try hiking into Shadow Lake Lodge (or campground). It’s a day’s hike in to Shadow Lake, but the landscape photography opportunities are well worth it.
This gorgeous backcountry lake is framed by the towering, snow-capped peak of Mount Ball and is best photographed at dawn, though there are fantastic evening shots to be had, as well.
For more information about the 14-km (28-km round trip) hike, check out The Canadian Rockies Trail Guide, which features one of my images on its 40th Anniversary cover!
Happy shooting!
