Banff National Park, Alberta
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! It couldn’t have been timed better. Sunshine Village managed to time the scheduling of their opening day with some fantastic early snowfall in the Banff area. The excitement is obvious around the town as people run around with shiny snowboards, skis in plastic and eventually slings! Hotels are beginning to get booked up not just in Banff but in Lake Louise, Jasper and Canmore. The ski season has finally arrived and to Banff locals, there is no time to waste.
A phenomenal 180cm has already fallen on the slopes with an especially great flurry of 40cm in the first three days meaning snowboarders in particular could not have been happier with the powder. 47 runs and 5 lifts are already in operation. During the summer months, there was constant talk as always about the signs pointing towards a great ski/boarding winter and it seems this time, all the potential Nostradamus’ out there were right.
If you were hesitant about booking a weekend up in the beautiful Rockies’, hesitate no longer. Though the snow will only get better for the foreseeable future, there is still no feeling like packing up the car early on a Saturday morning and heading to the slopes. As you reach the top of the Gondola and look down on the towns of the Canadian Rockies and the fresh mountain air hits you in the face, there are few places in the world you would rather be!
