Banff, Alberta
If you’re searching for those “must-do” activities in the Canadian Rockies, you’ve come to the right spot. The Banff Gondola ride offers some of the best activities to ensure that you’ll see the best of what Banff National Park and the Canadian Rockies have to offer. Get a bird’s-eye view of the Canadian Rockies, or get an eye-to-eye view of a big horn sheep. All the information you need to get your vacation going is right here.
The Gondola Ride
This is truly one of the best ways to see the mountains of the Canadian Rockies. The ride itself takes eight minutes, and brings you to the summit of Sulphur Mountain in a superb, fully-enclosed four passenger gondola. The views get more and more amazing by the second as you climb 698m (2,292 ft) to an elevation of 2,281m (7,486 ft) at the Summit Upper Terminal – the departure point for a mountaintop of activities.
Banff SkyWalk & National Historic Site
The gondola ride is only half the journey of this amazing experience. When you reach the summit of Sulphur Mountain you can exit the building and witness the breathtaking 360 degree views, or go up to the restaurant to take in a great meal and with an awesome view. Above the restaurant you’ll find the upper observation deck, for the highest-possible view. Both the Summit Complex and the main observation deck are handicapped accessible. At the summit, you’ll also find the Banff Skywalk, a 1km self-guided interpretive walkway along the summit to the Cosmic Ray Station National Historic Site of Canada, and the historic Sanson’s Peak Meteorological Station. The historical stories of the area and early explorers are as impressive as the spectacular views! More adventurous hikers will want to try the South East Ridge Trail – a favourite among the locals.
Banff Alpine Lights
Go for a ride on the Banff Gondola to the top of Sulphur Mountain at night, and see Canadian Rockies in one of the most interesting ways possible. Banff Alpine Lights is a mountaintop evening experience, featuring Canadian cuisine and live entertainment with local band Swanee & Friends and a scenic evening light display – all from the peak of Sulphur Mountain.

Wildlife
Keep an eye out for wildlife and birds that frequent the Banff Gondola area. The Canadian Rockies are nature’s playground and here you can encounter local wildlife including Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep, Golden mantled ground squirrels, Hoary marmots, Clark’s nutcracker and the Canada (Gray) jay.
Please remember that although these animals are for the most part friendly, they are wild, and should not be fed or approached.
Banff Gondola
