Waterton Lakes National Park – A Summer Paradise
Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta
Ah beautiful Waterton! It is one of the less well-known National Parks in the Rockies but it is by no means anything less than stunning. It has some of the best hiking trails, boating, scuba diving and sailing during summer in the Canadian Rockies. It also has a stunning 18-hole golf course, horse riding, tennis courts, ball field and playgrounds. Sure, in winter it has great cross-country skiing and snowshoeing but heck, the sun is out, summer is almost here and Waterton is begging to be visited!
Though a small place, the Waterton townsite has all the necessary amenities with ten hotels, a bunch of restaurants and lounges, camping supplies, grocery stores and all the rentals you may possibly need whether you are going for a relaxed day of boating on Cameron Lake or an equally relaxing round of golf! Though Wateron is technically open all season, from late fall to early spring, most park facilities are closed and there aren’t many services available in the village.
The summer in Waterton is brief and a little cooler than some of the other National Parks. Its winters are also slightly warmer which is another reason why snowshoeing is so popular. It’s always nice to do an activity without the fear of losing a finger or two. After the hubbub of Banff and the peace of Jasper National Park, Waterton is the perfect place to finish off your summer vacation in the Rockies!
